Learn the fundamentals of cooking in the wild! Try recipes and get helpful resources to plan your own trips. This clinic includes menu and ration planning, stove operation and then instruction on how to cook warming breakfasts, and dinners you'll want to eat at home.

Trip: Mt. Rogers Backpacking
Dates: April 2nd - 4th, 2010

Come hike the highest point in Virginia and get a glimpse of the Appalachian Trial, the East Coast's premiere hiking destination. Visit the land where wild ponies roam the hillsides and wind swept highlands give way to incredible vistas. Join Outdoor Source of an adventure at 5,729 feet!

Class/Trip: Climbing Class and Trip
Dates:
Class 1: Sunday April 11th
Class 2: Sunday May 2nd
Trip: May 7th - 8th
Cost: $165

Learn the basics of climbing, from belaying to lead climbing right in Downtown Columbus! This 2 part class followed by a trip will offer a full range of skills and knowledge for the beginner climber. Take this knowledge to the Red River Gorge in Kentucky for a weekend at the crag! Located in Daniel Boone National Forest, the Red is world renowned for it's lifetime of juggy, incredible sport routes. Test your skills and enjoy the fun of group cooking, then crawl into your sleeping bag after a long day on the rock.

Fee Includes:
  • 2 classes and 1 weekend trip.
  • Group equipment, food, leader fees, camping fees.


Does NOT include: personal camping or climbing gear (harness and shoes). Please have these items for the first class. Outdoor Source will provide a 10% discount on gear for class participants.

Rain dates/locations will be established by the leaders/group.

We will be carpooling to the Red River Gorge for the weekend trip.

Trip: Family Wildflower Hike, Spring Valley Nature Preserve

Want to get your kids excited about your next camping trip this spring and summer? Show them that nature can be fun as we take a walk on the wild side and explore a local nature preserve to look for spring wildflowers.

The hike will be easy to moderate. A pocket notebook and flower identification booklet will be provided.

Join Outdoor Source and Coyote Trails School of Nature staff and learn how to make a fire in the wilderness without using a match! Try your hand at making fire by friction through the use of a bow drill, and learn about other tools to make a successful fire on your next camping trip.

PaddlePalooza! The Ohio Camp & Paddlesports Expo

Paddlesports Featured at Ohio Expo Center's PaddlePalooza! Kayaking, camping and biking enthusiasts from across the state will converge on the Ohio Expo Center's Lausche Building on Saturday, May 1 to celebrate "May Day" with fellow paddlers and other "silent sports" enthusiasts at "PaddlePalooza! The Ohio Camp & Paddlesports Expo." Show features include an indoor kayak demo pool and certified instructors from Columbus Outdoor Pursuits, as well as ongoing seminars on subjects including car-topping equipment and techniques, camping tent selection, rigging kayaks for fishing, selecting the right mountain bike, and new product intros and reviews. Exhibits will feature the latest in canoes, kayaks and paddle gear, mountain bikes, camping equipment and fly fishing tackle from local retailers, while canoe rental liveries and guides will display what they offer Ohio outdoor adventure-seekers. Local paddling, hiking, biking and related clubs will share information and answer questions on all things outdoors at PaddlePalooza! PaddlePalooza! will offer a sneak preview Friday evening, April 30, from 4-9 p.m. and then open its doors from 10 a.m-8p.m. Saturday, May 1, in the Lausche Building on the Ohio State Fairgrounds.
